HEAD COACH

Chris Ridgway is an NASM Certified Personal Trainer, ACE Certified Personal Trainer, IYCA Certified Youth Fitness Specialist, and a member of IDEA Health and Fitness Association. With over 15 years of experience in the fitness industry, Chris has developed a strong reputation for motivating, educating and inspiring clients to achieve Fitness Excellence®. As a personal trainer and fitness coach he has dedicated himself to working with clients in boot camp style workouts, small groups, 1:1, group fitness classes, cycling classes and with youth athletes. His skills as a knowledgeable, versatile and innovative trainer have helped hundreds of clients across the United States lead healthier lives. Chris is a former member of the Christopher Newport University and Virginia Tech varsity soccer teams. He competes in a variety of on and off-road races including: marathons, ½ marathons, 10k's, 10-milers, triathlons, mountain biking and adventure races.

Need an individual coach? Need a team trainer? Chris is your man. Let's get this straight, I am completely biased; I have recommended Chris to my friends for years (never had a complaint from anyone I have ever introduced to him!) He has an amazing capacity to read his clients and will give you what you need - not always what you want - but this is one of the traits I admire about him most.

I first started to work with Chris because I had a desire to complete my first marathon. Through my training with Chris, he not only helped me increase my physical endurance, but he took the time to train my brain, and inspire my vision. When he first suggested I could make a Boston-time, I laughed... but step by step, he took me beyond my original goal to an even bigger one... and those tears I cried when my BQ time hit the finish line are a memory I will never forget.
He has an excellent eye for reading where you are, and excellent skills to take you to your goals... be careful though, he will have you surpassing your goals and achieving more than you thought you could. I heard about this class called No Limits Boot Camp and it oh so got my attention.  Chris took the old and the young and pushed each person above and beyond.  We did things that I have never done before.  The class was contagious and I didn’t want to miss a single one. That was my intro Chris and his encouragement to being a better athlete....So he has got me running with a 12 pound bar over my head, running stairs with a bosu up in the air and hitting football dummies on a football practice field. So, with all that in mind I thought what knowledge he would have to share with me to try to attempt my First triathlon.....First thing he said was "You can do it.  Let me put a program together."  I was six weeks out and each day he told me just what I had to do.  I felt just like an athlete in training.  I learned how to train correctly.  No workouts are the same so I never got bored and it was the right progressions.  I didn’t over train.  Now for the best part....Chris says "swim your swim, bike your bike and run your run". He gave me the knowledge to be the best and feel like Rocky.  I didn't break any speed records, but I never stopped.  I swam, rode and ran.  The feeling of accomplishment was like no other. I have been working out in a class taught by Chris for several weeks. I recently turned 45 years old and I am now in the best shape I have been in for years. Matt improved his squat max by 47% from 186lbs to 273lbs and bench press max by 25% from 135lbs to 169lbs, while improving his 40yd speed from 5.52 to 5.29 on an 8-week program designed for the high school football player.

Bo improved his cardio conditioning during a summer training program and passed the Cooper Test, a 2-mile run in less than 12 minutes, to make the Virginia Tech college soccer team.

Shannon increased her muscular strength, stabilization and speed to qualify for an elite hockey camp at Lake Placid and earn a scholarship to play Division 1 hockey at Ohio State.

Allyson progressed from 5 to 24 push-ups and 10 to 30 sit-ups, while also improving her cardiovascular fitness by 25%, accomplishing these amazing results less than a year after surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Chris's passion for people is demonstrated not only by his training and classes but also by his passion to give and to share. He has volunteered his time and effort for the past 5 years at the Virginia Run Sprint Triathlon in benefit of Virginia Special Olympics. The race is inclusive, with Special Olympic athletes competing on the same course at the same time as the age group athletes. Chris is always there supporting ALL the athletes with his smile and encouragement.

As a volunteer trainer for a group of federal agents who competed in the 911 Fitness Challenge. During the 12 week competition, the group lost a total of 155 lbs for an average of 17 lbs/person. They also decreased their body fat by a total of 53% for an average of 6% per person.
